Max Pokey sat the hard plastic case on the tailgate of the truck. Carefully opening it, he started pulling things out of it. The first thing was a small drone that had long strips of thin copper hanging from the bottom, a small phone that would be used to provide video and a GoPro. The GoPro had been modified to be able to follow the drone as it flew. The drone itself was unremarkable; it was a quad copter, but all markings had been removed and no one had ever touched it with bare hands as to not leave any fingerprints on it. Anyone who handled it wore gloves. That way if it were to get lost somehow (either by flying out of range and not coming back, or by being shot down with something) it couldn't be traced back to anyone in particular. Aaron Rogers watched as Max got everything set up. Aaron was there as a second set of eyes to watch for law enforcement, and to watch for how Max was doing was he was doing. "So you just fly that up and basically drop the strips over the lines and cause them to short out?" Aaron asked. "Pretty much..." Max said, Glancing up at Aaron. The sun was setting so they had to get a move on so they could test this. "This strip isn't very thick so it's going to get burned through pretty quickly, but it will cause a momentary short before it melts. When we do this for real, we're going to overfly a substation and drop a bunch of these. We're going to do it at multiple substations." Max put the battery in the drone and turned the switch on. The red and green lights on the sides of the drone lit. Once it was in the air, the red light would be on the left and the green light would be on the right. Using the lights the person flying a drone could tell what direction it was flying by looking at the lights. "It's going to melt the strip?" Aaron looked confused. "Yeah, it's going to short the lines out, hopefully, but it will have 37 KiloVolts going through it." Max said, hitting switches on the controller. "So it won't last long, but if we drop enough of these into a substation..." Max watched as the drone took flight. "It's gonna cause all sorts of issues..." The Drone flew higher and higher, eventually flying over one of the six pair of wire that were supported across the expanse of the across the road off the beaten path in Athol, Idaho. "This line isn't quite that high, it's ||find out how many volts small lines to substations are (10KV, Maybe?)||, so while it will burn through it, it's gonna be pretty for a few minutes." Max took his eyes from the screen, and looked up at the drone. The sun was almost gone and the evening chill was starting to set in ||Figure out a good temprature|| and the temprature was dropping rapidly. "Here we go..." Max pushed a button on the remote and the strip was dropped, and suddenly there were sparks everywhere. Aaron, grabbed the case for the drone and put it in the cab of the pickup. Max calmly and expertly guided the drone back to him where he caught it in mid air and powered it off. He walked over and got in the truck and the pair drove off into the darkening night toward Spokane.
