Delaney rolled over and spooned backward into Veronica's body. Veronica shifted slightly and wrapped her arm around Delaney's small frame.
Veronica shook Delaney awake. "Come on, sleepy head... It's time to get up and get a shower so we can go to the zoo..."
Delaney's eyes fluttered open and she looked up at Veronica, who had already showered and gotten dressed. She wore a pink skater dress and a pair of sneakers. Nothing wrong with wearing comfortable shoes. The high had been forecast to be in the low seventies with low humidity. It would be perfect dress weather. Delaney stood, feeling the night gown tickle the backs of her knees. She waddled off to the bathroom to take a shower. She was only allowed to touch her own diapers when she had been given permission. Delaney pulled the night gown off and waddled off to the bathroom. She could pass for a twelve or thirteen year old easily.
Veronica had come in and diapered her husband, still not knowing what choice he had made when it came to which gender to present as on this trip to the zoo. The last time, he had presented as an adult male, or at least he had tried. The admissions staff still put him as coming in as a boy between the ages of twelve and fourteen. It didn't really matter as the membership they had was for two adults and one child. The forms hadn't asked for specifics about ages or genders and it let them play across the age and gender spectrum. She really hoped that he chose the girlish of the two outfits... She hadn't intentionally picked an overly girlish outfit, just something that was a little feminine. She didn't want to dissuade her husband from selecting the girlish outfit.
Alex pulled the straps up over his shoulders and hooked the metal clips onto the buttons at the top of the bib of the shortalls. The diaper wasn't too visible as the shortalls were looser in the crotch region, and that made Alex happy. He quickly brushed his hair into a high ponytail and then went downstairs.
Veronica had packed two diaper bags, one the normal black backpack that served as Alex's diaper bag; the other a pastel geometric patterned bag that would be more appropriate for a girl to be carrying. That was another standing rule: Alex or Delaney carried his or her own diaper bag. They both were packed because she didn't know how Alex was going to be dressed. "I see Delaney has decided to join her Mommy to the zoo..." Veronica smiled. She had been slowly trying to work Delaney up to going out in public, and was finally making progress. "You ready to go, princess?"
Delaney blushed as she picked up the black backpack. "Let's go before I get cold feet..." She said, the soft voice that Veronica loved sounding slightly shaky.
"Wrong bag, sweetie..." Veronica said, pointing at the pink bag. "Take Delaney's diaper bag instead of Alex's."
Delaney blushed redder than a tomato. "But Mommy!" She whined. "Everyone will know that there are diapers in there..."
"No they won't," Veronica said, smiling. "They are going to think that you are a Little girl carrying her stuff in a cute backpack. Now let's get going before you chicken out and I have to drag you kicking and screaming..." It would be one thing to just go outside dressed as Delaney was, She had done that numerous times. The eight foot brick wall around the property ensured that the only people that would see Delaney were the ones that she wanted to see her. Veronica watched as Delaney took a deep breath and slid her arms into the straps of the backpack. She walked out into the garage and looked at the cars. "My car, princess..." Veronica said, opening the passenger side back door for Delaney, who threw the diaper bag in the back seat and then started to open the front door of the car. "What do you think you're doing, young lady?" There was a tone to Veronica's voice that stopped Delaney in her tracks. She looked at Veronica.
"Getting in the front seat where I always ride..." Alex's voice didn't match the body it came out of.
"Little girls," Veronica placed a fair amount of emphasis on the word little. "Ride in the back seat..."
"Yes, Mommy." Delaney's soft voice returned, and her eyes went from looking at Veronica to looking at the floor. She slid into the back seat and started to reach for her seat belt. Delaney's hand smacked her hand away and Veronica buckled the seat belt.
"Now we can go." Veronica said, giving Delaney a soft kiss on the forehead. Delaney blushed again, still not sure about the sudden turn in Veronica's mothering attitude. Delaney knew that she wanted kids and because of some defect in one or both of them, Alex wouldn't be able to fulfill that dream of hers. If babying him helped her cope then he was all for it.
They had gotten a few strange glances from the team that worked the parking lot booths at the zoo; them not being accustomed to seeing a tween girl riding in the back seat... Veronica parked the car and shut off the engine. Delaney, after having been given a talk on the way to the zoo about how today she was a little girl and that Veronica was in charge. The only thing different from any other day was the emphasis that Delaney was a 'little' girl. Before they got out of the car, Veronica turned to look at Delaney. "How would you feel if I took away all of Alex's clothes this week while you were in diapers?" She asked. Alex looked at her as he thought about it it was one of his fantasies after all, to be given no choice but to wear nothing but girls clothes...
"Do I get to pick what I wear?" Delaney asked.
"Yes," Veronica said, opening the door and getting out, before opening the back door for Delaney. "But, I get to pick next Saturday and Sunday; as well as what you wear to bed."
"I can live with that." Delaney said, sliding out of the back seat. She stood and stretched.
"You know," Veronica said, holding the straps of the diaper bag so that Delaney could slide her arms into them. "One of your chokers would have looked cute with that outfit..." It was too late to change it now. "So what animals do you want to go see?"
"The fishes," Delaney said excitedly. "Duh..." Every time they went to the zoo, Alex would spend as long as Veronica would let him sitting there staring into the tranquil beauty of the aquarium. He had tried more than once to get Veronica to let him get an aquarium, but she never said he could so therefore there was still no aquarium.
Veronica leaned over to speak directly into Delaney's ear. "Act like a spoiled brat one more time and I'll bust your bottom and you won't be dressing as Alex for a month..." The threat was only slightly empty; there was a conference that Alex at to leave for the following weekend.
Delaney gulped. "Yes, Mommy." she said, her voice almost not audible. She felt her diaper get wet due to the fear of Veronica making her dress like a girl for the conference that she was scheduled to attend in a weeks time. They passed through the entrance, showing the attendant the zoo membership card that Veronica kept in her purse. They passed into the zoo proper, and immediately headed for the aquarium. Veronica grabbed on the backpack to stop Delaney briefly. She had no intention of carrying her wallet all day; it would go into the diaper bag.
"Delaney, let me put my wallet in your diaper bag." Veronica said. She couldn't see it but she knew that Delaney blushed and started to glance around for anyone that had overheard Veronica's statement. Thankfully no one seemed to pay the pair any mind. Once the wallet was safely stored in the diaper bag, they continued on toward the aquarium.
Delaney led the way into the aquarium and sat roughly in the middle where she could just stare at the fish with as few people blocking her view as possible. Of course, for Delaney's vertically challenged height, that meant she had to be right up on the glass. Delaney had been sitting there watching the fish swim to and fro, loosing her problems in the tranquility before her, she sensed someone sitting down next to her. The person seemed smaller than Veronica, so Delaney carefully stole a glance to her right. A little girl, maybe nine years old was sitting there.
Veronica had been looking at her phone and not paying attention when she looked up to see that a child had sat down next to Delaney. Veronica stood, and made her way over to where Delaney sat. "Delaney, we need to go meet up with your father and Zoe," she said just loud enough for Delaney to hear. There was a visible relaxation in Delaney's body.
"OK," Delaney said, standing. Obviously, there was no father nor sister named Zoe, but it worked for what was needed right then.
