Alex had just laid his head down and closed his eyes when his phone started ringing. He rolled over and looked at it. The caller was the dispatch center.
“Thompson.” he said, not quite awake, not quite asleep.
“Sir,” The male voice on the other end of the phone call started, “Just as a heads up, County fire dispatched units to 18372 Whitethorne on a fire. That’s about half a mile away from your other scene.”
“Do I need to respond out there?” Thompson asked, trying to figure out why the dispatch center was calling him.
“Batallion chief asked for you... By name...” 18372 Whitethorne on a fire. That’s about half a mile away from your other scene."
“Let them know I’m on my way...” Thompson threw the blankets back and sat up. This caused Lilly to stir.
“What’s going on?” She asked groggily.
“County fire is on a fire scene about half a mile from the scene where the parents were murdered,” Alex responded. “I guess the Batallion Chief wants me out there for some reason...”
“Ok,” Lilly said, rolling over and laying her head on her pillow. “Be careful and I love you.”
“I love you too.” Alex said, wandering toward the bathroom.
