Alex pulled in and turned off his headlights, leaving the engine running and the parking lights on; the fire equipment provided enough light that his would be wasted. He spotted the Batallion Chief looking at an area on the ground that was roped off from the rest of the fire scene. The structure was a total loss, but apparently that wasn’t of any intrest to the batallion cheif.
“Chief,” Alex said. “What do you have?”
“Well, I have a suspicion that your two missing kids were here,” Chief Robertson said. “When we rolled up we had avoided walking though here because it was muddy. I happened to glance down and saw this.” He pointed his light toward the gound, clearly lighing up the six footprints, two adult foot prints and four smaller ones.
“S30 to Radio.” Alex said into his walkie after he had removed it from his hip.
“Radio, go.” Came a voice from the dispatch center.
“Can you start the on call detective to the scene at 18372 Whitethorne?” He said into the radio.
“Affir, Sir.”
“S30 clear.” Alex said, replacing hte radio on his hip. “Cheif, do you have a tarp that we can use to cover this to protect it until Delany gets here with the van?”
“Yeah, we can do that.” Chief Robertson said.
Alex walked back over to his car and pulled out his flashlight, he wanted to take a look around. Another vehicle pulled in and turned off their lights, This one leaving the parking lights on too. The only vehicles that were fully lit were the fire trucks that were providing the wide area scene lighting.
