52 Across from Motel Six 5 15 AM
Alex and Robert were watching the car that belonged to Brynn Richards. Lee’s phone had been ringing and pinging all night. Maxwell was obviously getting very agitated at the fact that Lee wasn’t responding to any form of communication.
“How long until he just gives up?” Delaney asked. The phone had just got done ringing yet again.
“No clue...” Alex said, pulling his phone out and calling the radio room.
“Metro PD, Tech 30.” Came a voice over the phone.
“It’s Thompson, connect me to Popovich, please?”
“Stand by, Sir.” Came the communications tech’s voice. There was a brief period of music then Popovich answered.
“Popovich,” Came Popovich’s voice.
“It’s Alex,” Alex said, he had put the call on speaker. “What time does Criminal Investigative Unit come on?”
“Erickson should be in the building in half an hour or so,” Popovich said. “Why?”
“Criminal Investigative Unit is going to blend in better than we will,” Alex said. “Besides, they follow people all day. I don’t, I just show up after someone else has followed someone to figure out what the heck happened...”
“True...” Popovich laughed. “I’ll have Tony call you when he gets in. You’ve helped his guys out in the past, I’m sure he’ll help you out.”
“Thanks, Josh.” Alex said. He was tired and not looking forward to trying to tail these two around all day. Criminal Investigative Unit would do that better than he ever could. “Be careful heading home.”
“I will,” Popovich said. “You guys be careful out there.”
“We will...” there was a beep as the call disconnected. Alex looked at Robert. “Once the Criminal Investigative Unit gets on these guys, lets go get some shuteye...”
“Agreed...” Robert said. “How were the Miller kids?”
“Well,” Alex said. “They tasted like chicken...” Delaney laughed. “Seriously, they changed into what Lilly had pulled out for them and then promptly passed out. “
“Good...” Robert said, pulling the binoculars up to his eyes as he saw movement across the street. “We’ve got activity.” The lighting in the parking lot they were sitting in came on.
“Great.. Our covers blown.” Alex said starting the car getting ready to move, he reached up and picked up his binoculars and held them to his eyes. He watched the man whose picture matched the one on the computer terminal load suitcases in the trunk of the car that was registered to Brynn Richards. They watched as Maxwell made several trips from the room to the trunk. They had been staying in the motel for a while from the looks of it. Alex traded his binoculars for the digital camera and started snapping photos of Maxwell loading the car. Brynn walked from the room to the office and was in the office for a few moments, before walking out of the office and over to the car. Max opened her door and after she had gotten in the car, he shut the door, looked right at Alex and then walked around the car and got in the drivers side, starting the car and backing out of the parking spot. “Call Radio, let them know we’re moving. Have them start Wells out here with the van. I want that room processed. Also, we need CIU, now...” Alex pulled his phone out and dialed the motel.
“Motel Six.” Alex heard as he watched Brynn’s car turn on to the service road.
“Good morning, I’m Detective Sargent Alex Thompson, it appears that you just had someone check out of room one hundred three... The people that were in that room are currently under investigation, I’m going to have the department send a detective out to process that room, can you not let anyone in there including room service, please?” Alex watched as the car pulled out and turned left.
“It’s Delaney,” Robert said into his phone. “Yeah, we’re moving, as soon as CIU gets in, we need them to back us up. We may have been blown.”
“We can do that for you Sargent,” Alex heard the clerk say. The division had a good working relationship with most of the hotels and motels in the area.”
“Thank you,” Alex said. “We appreciate your cooperation.” There was a beep as the clerk hung up the phone.
“Ok, thank you,” Delaney said into his phone, looking down the road at the taillights of the car that belonged to Brynn. “Thompson wants you guys to call Wells and have him respond to the motel to process the room.” Delaney listened for a moment as Alex pulled out and headed the same direction as the suspects. Alex still hadn’t turned the headlights on, but Delaney knew that Alex knew what he was doing.
